This course uses established cultural theories as a framework to guide participants in adapting the English language to bridge cultural gaps using diplomacy and tact. These are the topics: Language for nuance & vocabulary for objectivity: Introduction to the "Cultural Lens" (Iceberg of Culture, Hofstede/Hall). Language for disagreement & formality vs. authority: Power, Hierarchy and Disagreement (Power Distance). Directness vs. tact  & diplomacy: Reading the Context & decoding hidden meanings (Hall’s Context Theory). Navigating silence, turn-taking & small talk: The Art of the Meeting (Monochronic/Polychronic). Framing feedback & vocabulary for success or failure: Risk and Motivation (Uncertainty Avoidance). CSI of a failed negotiation - a group presentation: Putting it together (Applying all learned language strategies to a case study).
